40 Really Creative Logos for Hotels and Restaurants

According to a new study by Strategic name Development, a brand name consultancy, Minneapolis, Logo design for restaurants should be simple designed and easy to read but not so simple that they lose distinction and fail to communicate the restaurant concept to consumers. It also appeared in the study that logos that evoked “good feelings” prompted respondents to say they’d be “confident” in eating there.

The above study shows how important it is for restaurants and Hotels to have a logo which makes the consumers love them. Burj Khalifa OR Burj Dubai

Burj Khalifa known as Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the tallest man-made structure ever built, at 828 m (2,717 ft). Construction began on 21 September 2004, with the exterior of the structure completed on 1 October 2009. The building officially opened on 4 January 2010, and is part of the new 2 km2 (490-acre) flagship development called Downtown Dubai at the ‘First Interchange’ along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Dubai’s main business district.

The tower’s architecture and engineering were performed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill of Chicago, with Adrian Smith as chief architect, and Bill Baker as chief structural engineer. The primary contractor was Samsung C&T of South Korea. In June 2010, Burj Khalifa was awarded the 2010 ‘Best Tall Building’ for the Middle East & Africa by Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.

The total cost for the project was about US$1.5 billion; and for the entire ‘Downtown Dubai’, US$20 billion. In March 2009, Mohamed Ali Alabbar, Chairman of the project’s developer, Emaar Properties, said office space pricing at Burj Khalifa reached US$4,000 per sq ft (over US$43,000 per m2) and the Armani Residences, also in Burj Khalifa, sold for US$3,500 per sq ft (over US$37,500 per m2)

Petronas Twin Towers

The Petronas Twin Towers also known as the Petronas Towers or just Twin Towers, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were the world’s tallest buildings from 1998 to 2004, when their height was surpassed by Taipei 101. The towers remain the tallest twin buildings in the world.

Taipei 101

Taipei 101, also known as the Taipei Financial Center, is a landmark skyscraper located in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan. The building ranked officially as the world’s tallest from 2004 until the opening of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2010. Taipei 101, designed by C.Y. Lee & partners and constructed primarily by KTRT Joint Venture and numerous subcontractors including Samsung C&T received the 2004 Emporis Skyscraper Award and was hailed as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World (Newsweek magazine, 2006) and Seven Wonders of Engineering (Discovery Channel, 2005). The tower has served as an icon of modern Taiwan ever since its opening. Fireworks launched from Taipei 101 feature prominently in international New Year’s Eve broadcasts and the structure appears frequently in travel literature and international media.

Taipei 101 comprises 101 floors above ground and 5 floors underground. The name of the tower reflects its floor count. The building was architecturally created as a symbol of the evolution of technology and Asian tradition (see “Symbolism” below.) Its postmodernist approach to style incorporates traditional design elements and gives them modern treatments. The tower is designed to withstand typhoons and earthquakes. A multi-level shopping mall adjoins the tower houses to hundreds of fashionable stores, restaurants and clubs.

Jin Mao Tower

The Jin Mao Tower is an 88-story landmark supertall skyscraper in the Lujiazui area of the Pudong district of Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. It contains offices and the Shanghai Grand Hyatt hotel. Until 2007 it was the tallest building in the PRC, the fifth tallest in the world by roof height and the seventh tallest by pinnacle height. Along with the Oriental Pearl Tower, it is a centerpiece of the Pudong skyline. Its height was surpassed on September 14, 2007 by the Shanghai World Financial Center which is next to the building. The Shanghai Tower, a 128-story building located next to these two buildings and now under construction, will be even taller.

Willis Tower

Willis Tower, formerly named Sears Tower, is a 108-story, 1451-foot (442 m) skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois. At the time of its completion in 1974, it was the tallest building in the world, surpassing the World Trade Center towers in New York. Currently, Willis Tower is the tallest building in the United States and the fifth-tallest freestanding structure in the world as well as the fifth tallest building in the world to the roof.

Although Sears’ naming rights expired in 2003, the building continued to be called Sears Tower for several years. In March 2009 London-based insurance broker Willis Group Holdings, Ltd., agreed to lease a portion of the building and obtained the building’s naming rights as part of the agreement. On July 16, 2009, at 10:00 am Central Time, the building was officially renamed Willis Tower.

1. Over 15 million Americans are dependent on alcohol
2. Americans spend over $90 billion dollars total on alcohol each year.
3. An average American may consume over 25 gallons of beer, 2 gallons of wine, and 1.5 gallons of distilled spirits each year.
4. Each year students spend $5.5 billion on alcohol, more then they spend on soft drinks, tea, milk, juice, coffee, or books combined.
5. 56% of students in grade 5 to 12 say that alcohol advertising encourages them to drink.

Due to the above points each year the liquor industry spends almost $2 billion dollars on advertising and encouraging the consumption of alcoholic beverages. The companies today have also went for negative publicity for the same purpose.

What is Global Warming?

Global warming is the observed and projected increases in the average temperature of Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. The world of contemporary advertising is increasingly dominated by high-production multimedia events, acts of guerrilla marketing and viral Internet campaigns. In this context it could be thought that the billboard is becoming eclipsed as an advertising tool. The reality is that the billboard continues to be a marketing form that produces amazingly inspirational and inventive designs. This post brings together 20 examples of the coolest billboards of recent years.

Absolut Vodka’s long-running ad campaign is one of the most successful branding operations in recent history. This Christmas-themed billboard has the iconic bottle shape formed in illuminated Christmas tree lights.

In Spring 2010, the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles presented the exhibiting project, How Many Billboards? Art in Stead. The exhibition is an ambitious urban project with 21 leading artists commissioned to create billboard artwork to be sited around the city. This piece is by artist Kerry Tribe.

BMW’s ad in central Moscow, at 15-metres tall and 400-metres long, is surely one of the biggest billboards ever seen. The panorama features life-size BMW models, made with a combination of real parts and synthetic materials, anchored to the ads surface to create an impressive sense of motion.

Vexel is a neologism for an entirely pixel-based form of raster art that imitates the visual appearance of vector graphics technique (i.e. sharp-edged lines and areas of flat colour or smooth gradient fills). The main difference is that vexels are created using raster layers while vectors are created using vector layers. The word itself is a portmanteau derived from a combination of “vector” and “pixel.

The different nature of raster programs over a vector-plotted approach gives some vexel images a unique appearance when compared with traditional rasterized vector graphics, however, the increased flexibility comes with a loss of image scalability for print media, which is often a source of criticism. To compensate for this, most vexels are created at very high resolution.

A vexel may even be composed using vector graphic techniques, however it becomes a vexel when the vector elements are rasterized and further manipulations to the image are done in raster. Sometimes true raster images are placed behind and/or in front of the original vector elements to emphasize the surrealism that the vector elements produce. A vexel is not essentially created with paintbrushes, airbrushes or a freehand tool such as pencil, although some may include these elements if they are not the primary medium. Ben Woolley says “[V]exels were originally meant to involve a vector technique, not any particular aesthetic style.

What is allowed and what’s not when creating vexel art

vector layers are allowed in the creation as long as they are rasterized before saving the final JPG/PNG
no airbrushing or painting to blend is allowed
glows used to cheat blending, as opposed to using several layers or gradients, are not allowed
brushes allowed only if you are using the stroke path method
soft, feathered or photo brushes are not allowed
photos overlayed over your finished vexel (or behind it) are not allowed
photo textures, filters and layer styles (drop/inner shadows, inner/outer glows, bevels, satin etc.) are not allowed. The exceptions are gradient/colour overlays, stroke and patterns created using the pen tool or lasso tool
photo backgrounds are not allowed
no gradient mesh as this is not created using layered shapes. ref
